Objective:

The Murupara (MUPRA) & (KWRAU) circuit is a constant cycle of locos and wagons, if one service is cancelled or delayed this can create a domino effect for the following services. It is bulk’s responsibility to create a recovery plan for this freight to travel, for the circuit to adjust and avoid any major backlog or wagons.

RedEmpty wagons and loco cycle
BlueEmpty Wagon cycle
YellowDouble Loco
Note: wagons will be returned back empty on the second service as they will unload during the next. EG. Wagons inbound on 352 will return on 379 with loco ex 354

Process Steps:

1Check services cancelled or effected by LSM cancellation/delay
2

Based on circuit, determine which following services will be impacted

NOTE KWRAU will generally always have a spare loco and empty wagons to supply MUPRA as they use a double loco for 356M

  • General rule of thumb is if one KWRAU - MTMNG service is cancelled then the next 3 connecting services MTMNG-KWRAU-MUPRA will be cancelled unless KWRAU can supply wagons and loco for MUPRA

  • If services to MUPRA is cancelled then the connecting KWRAU-MTMNG service are unaffected unless LSM or ops state otherwise due to supply.

3

Check current BOP train plan and liaise with KWARU yard and Team leader the impact and their plan for backlog.

  • Prioritise Timberlands and OJI fibre loaded freight to travel on the next available services and get confirmation from ops.

For KWARU-MTMNG cancellations:

  • If they can take a spare rake ex MUPRA, this will be held in KWARU yard and split across 356 over the next 3 days with a reduction of 356M from 30 wagons to 23 wagons single loco

  • If there is already a spare rake from MUPRA sitting in Kawarau, cancel the next MUPRA circuit as they will be over capacity - advise LSM

4Advise affected customers of the impact on freight and recovery plan.
5Update BOP Train Plan accordingly.
